285 2nd Street
was constructed in the early 1800’s for Empire
Stove Works which was owned by Sweat & Quimby.
The construction was completed in 1844 and Empire
Stove occupied the building in 1845.
Empire
Stove was the second largest cast iron stove manufacturer
in the Northeast. Empire Stove operated at this location until
the early 1900’s when a fire destroyed the stove plant.
The building remained vacant for several years until Lindy’s
Hardware moved in around 1920.
Lindy’s Hardware was
in operation a total of 99 years with 78 of those
years at this location. Lindy’s hardware closed
in 1998 for retirement and the building remained
vacant until December 2000 when it was purchased
with a vision for The Irish Mist.
The building is 4 stories
high, over 39,000 square feet, and sits on 9 city
building lots. It encompasses 1 square block and
has the Poestenkill Canal running along the south
side of the building.
We currently have a
restaurant, bar, and banquet facility with plans
for a deck on the canal in 2003.
